In August 2017, the "301 Survey" initiated by the United States and the subsequent measures taken by the United States authority to impose tariffs on Chinese imports in September 2018 intensified the China-US trade frictions. Meanwhile, the US dollar plays an important role in import and export trade, as common settlement currency, exchanges with RMB during China-US trade. Thus, a large amount of US dollar flows into China to exchange RMB every day, which is likely to cause the appreciation of RMB. In brief, trade frictions will inevitably cause fluctuations in the exchange rate of RMB against the US dollar. This essay will introduce the industries differences between China and America at the beginning, then research whether import and export volume have impacts on RMB exchange rate and whether the net export has correlation with RMB exchange rate.
